Guideline: Your company and international interns

The guideline was developed to help employers to establish a successful placement and illustrate what they can do to make the best possible use of the qualifications and skills of international interns for the benefit of the workplace.

The guideline is available in English, German, Lithuanian, French, Italian, Hungarian and Spanish and could be downloaded from the following website: www.eu-lips.de/...

It supports employers which are interested to have foreign interns in their company, but there also many aspects which could be interesting for Host Entrepreneurs in the context of the OPEN-EYE project.

In the following some content points, which could be relevant in this context.

The guideline will:

  • explain what benefits can be derived from hiring an international intern
  • lead through the time before, during and after the placement
  • Special attention is given to the time during the placement (IV.) and there is a discussion of
    such challenges as:
    • Personal relations
    • Work relations and
    • Knowledge transfer between employer and intern

  • In the section on personal/work relations and learning/knowledge transfer there is also a
focus on intercultural aspects as these are very important concerns when employing an
    international intern.
  • At the end of the brochure you will find a checklist of steps to remember
when organising a placement and some useful links.
The guideline is based on the experiences of employers and interns involved in the projects funded by the European Commission Leonardo da Vinci and LIPS (Linguistic and Intercultural Preparation of Students for the Workplace)
